Plans and Credits: How Pluck Pricing Works

Pluck used to have two prices: free, and $9.99 a year for unlimited plucks. That worked when the product was a clipboard tool. It stopped making sense once Studio started generating images on our servers, because every hosted generation costs us real money per run and a flat yearly fee cannot cover that at any volume.
So we redesigned the plans. This post explains what each one includes, how credits work, and how to choose. If you are on the old Unlimited plan, nothing changes for you: it keeps working until you cancel.
The short version
- Free: 50 plucks a month, as AI prompts or to Figma, plus HTML copies, the Studio library and boards, and free local generation with the desktop app. No credit card.
- Starter, $10 a month: unlimited plucks in every mode, 1,000 credits every month, hosted generation with every model.
- Pro, $29 a month: everything in Starter, 3,500 credits every month, priority generation queue.
- Studio, $79 a month: everything in Pro, 10,000 credits every month.
Yearly billing on any paid plan gets you two months free. Every paid plan can top up 1,000 credits for $10 at any time, and top-ups last twelve months. Full details are on the pricing section.
Two things you pay for, separately
There are two meters in Pluck and it helps to keep them apart.
Plucks are captures from the extension. On Free, you get 50 plucks a month, and it doesn't matter where they go: an AI prompt and a Figma copy each use one. HTML copies and saving to the Studio library don't count. On any paid plan, plucks are unlimited in every mode. Plucking never spends credits.
Credits pay for hosted image generation in Studio. When a prompt on a board runs on our servers, it spends credits. Nothing else does. Local generation through the desktop app and your own Codex CLI is free on every plan, including Free.
If you only use the extension to copy components into Cursor or Figma, you never need to think about credits. If you only use Studio with local generation, you never need to think about credits either. Credits matter when you want hosted models, which are faster, need no setup, and include models that Codex does not give you.
What a generation costs
We price hosted runs at roughly two and a half times what the model providers charge us, and one credit is about one cent. At standard quality:
- About 8 to 9 credits: Ideogram V4, Seedream 5 Lite, Recraft V4.1.
- About 18 to 20 credits: Seedream 5 Pro, Nano Banana 2.
- About 38 to 40 credits: Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.
Higher quality tiers cost more, because the providers charge more for larger output. Studio shows the exact credit cost on the prompt card before you run, so there are no surprises.
For a sense of scale, Starter's 1,000 monthly credits is roughly 50 standard runs on Nano Banana 2, or about 110 on Ideogram V4, or around 25 on GPT Image 2. Pro's 3,500 is three and a half times that. Studio's 10,000 is for people who generate all day.
How credits accrue and expire
Monthly credits are granted at the start of each billing period. On a yearly plan you still receive them monthly, not all at once, so a yearly Starter subscription delivers 1,000 credits every month for twelve months. Monthly credits last until the end of the month they were granted for and do not roll over.
Top-up credits are separate buckets that last twelve months from purchase. When you run a generation, the credits that expire soonest are used first, so a top-up never goes to waste while monthly credits are still fresh.
Each run places a hold for its cost. If the run fails, the hold is released and you are not charged.
Choosing a plan
A few patterns we see:
You use the extension and nothing else. Free, until you hit the 50-pluck limit. When you do, Starter is $10 and the plucks become unlimited. The credits are a bonus you can try Studio with.
You design in Studio and have the desktop app. Free covers you if local generation with Codex is enough. Starter if you want the hosted models some of the time, for example when you need clean UI text and Codex is not giving it to you.
You ship mockups every day. Pro. The priority queue means your runs go ahead of Free and Starter runs when the servers are busy, and 3,500 credits is enough for a couple of hundred generations a month on mid-range models.
You generate in bulk, or you run agents against Studio. Studio. An agent connected over MCP can run prompts without you watching, and 10,000 credits gives it room.
If you are unsure, start on Starter. You can top up if you run short, and you can change plans at any time.
Why not a single unlimited plan?
We get asked this. The honest answer is cost. A generation on GPT Image 2 at high quality costs us a meaningful amount per run. An unlimited plan at any price we could charge would either lose money on heavy users or be priced so high that light users would not buy it. Credits let light users pay little and heavy users pay in proportion, and let us put the newest models in front of everyone the week they ship instead of rationing them.
Plucking stays unlimited on paid plans because it costs us almost nothing. That is the part of the product we most want you to use without thinking.
Legacy Unlimited subscribers
If you bought Unlimited at $9.99 a year, you keep unlimited plucks and free local generation for as long as your subscription renews. You do not receive monthly credits, but you can buy top-ups if you want to try hosted models.
Where to go next
Pick a plan on the pricing section, or just install Pluck and start on Free. If you want to understand what the credits buy before you commit, Aspect Ratio, Quality and Model explains how model and quality choices affect the price of a run, and Generate Designs for Free with the Desktop App and Codex covers the zero-credit path.
